Zucker Hillside Breaks Ground on new $125M Inpatient Pavilion

Glen Oaks, New York – A ground breaking ceremony was held on September 23, 2010 for the new 130,000 sf, 115-bed Inpatient Pavilion on the Campus of the Zucker Hillside Psychiatric Hospital in Glen Oaks, New York. Realizing that behavioral health issues are a concern across the lifespan, Zucker is investing in this new facility that provides an ideal treatment environment reaching from children and adolescents to the ever growing geriatric population.

Array and Ennead Architects were retained to work with the clinical and administrative leadership of the hospital to incorporate best practice medicine into best practice design of the new Inpatient Pavilion.  The new Pavilion will consolidate outdated living quarters dispersed across the campus into 115 new inpatient beds – 57 for geriatric patients, 37 for adults, 21 for adolescents and will increase their current capacity by 13 beds. The new pavilion design is focused around a central rotunda that will include amenities for family and patient gatherings, as well as clinical teams. The new facility is surrounded by secure, tranquil landscape allowing for areas of outdoor relaxation, family visits, and patient exercise.

Zucker Hillside has a history of excellence in the areas of inpatient and outpatient treatment as well as strong teaching and research programs. As an interventional center for treatment, rehabilitation and teaching, Zucker Hillside is at the forefront of behavioral health care. Zucker Hillside hosts one the country’s largest psychiatric residency programs, and in conjunction with a fellowship program, trains approximately 100 future psychiatrists a year. Array is pleased to be a part of the exciting new expansion, and helping Zucker Hillside with their pursuit of defining the leading edge of tomorrow’s Behavioral Health Care.
